Become a Volunteer
The DCBE/Acton Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for dedicated, dependable individuals who want to serve their community as part of the fire and EMS service.
Last year, our department responded to more than 900 calls for service, requiring hundreds of volunteer hours from our members. Every volunteer plays an important role in helping us protect the residents of DCBE, Acton, and the surrounding areas.
No Experience Is Required
Applicants do not need any previous fire or EMS training to join. While prior experience is always helpful, our department provides training and opportunities for members to develop the skills needed to serve safely and effectively.
Applicants should be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment, which can add more than 45 pounds, and handling the tools and equipment used during firefighting and emergency operations.
Volunteer Commitment
Members are expected to attend the department’s regular meetings and training sessions:
First Thursday of each month
Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.
The business meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
Fire training is held after the meeting.
Third Thursday of each month
Training begins at 6:30 p.m.

Background Check & Application
Becoming a member of the DCBE/Acton Volunteer Fire Department begins with completing a volunteer application and successfully passing a background check. These steps help ensure the safety, integrity, and professionalism of our department while maintaining the trust of the community we serve.
Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you'll begin the onboarding process and receive the training and mentorship needed to become a successful member of our team. No previous fire or EMS experience is required—we provide the education, equipment, and support necessary to help you succeed.

Training:
At DCBE/Acton Volunteer Fire Department, training is the foundation of everything we do. We are committed to the ongoing education and professional development of every member because emergency response is constantly evolving. Whether you're new to the fire service or have years of experience, continuous training ensures we are always prepared to provide the highest level of service to our community.
Our comprehensive training program combines hands-on drills, classroom instruction, live fire exercises, EMS education, rescue scenarios, apparatus operations, incident command, and specialized certification courses. Members develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to respond safely and effectively to a wide variety of emergencies while reinforcing safe operating procedures and teamwork.
No previous fire or EMS experience is required to join our department. We provide the training, equipment, and mentorship needed to help every volunteer become a confident and capable member of our team.
From structure fires and medical emergencies to vehicle accidents, technical rescues, and natural disasters, our members train year-round to ensure they are ready whenever our community calls.

Service Commitment
Serving with the DCBE/Acton Volunteer Fire Department requires a commitment to training, teamwork, and our community. Volunteers are expected to actively participate in department meetings, training, emergency responses, and community events.
Members meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m., the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., and hands-on training follows the meeting. These gatherings provide an opportunity to strengthen skills, stay current on department operations, and build the teamwork that is essential for serving our community safely and effectively.
